My husband and I try to get out ever so often for date night. We go through the production; Getting a babysitter in advance being a large part of that. Last night was our night. Any of you who have children understand how nice it is to get out just the two of you and enjoy a glass of wine without wondering if the baby monitor will start lighting up or if your toddler will through chicken nuggets at the elderly woman sitting behind you during lunch. We went to 677 Prime and had a fabulous dinner. Afterwards, we caught an 8:20 movie. As we settled into our seats, we heard a loud “MAMA?” behind us. I, joined by every other mother in the theater, immediately turned around. Than, slightly annoyed, I thought to myself, “who brings their baby to an 8:30 movie?” In fact, who brings a BABY to a movie at all!? I know once you become parents you are supposed to be more understanding of children in public places but in my opinion, there is a time and a place. The child cried for almost the entire movie and when she wasn’t crying, she was blabbering. With about 20 minutes to go, a gentleman (whom in my opinion should have received an applause) asked the couple to please take the baby out of the theater. I was surprised to see that none of the ushers made a move to remove the couple and the baby during their checks. Should there be a rule against babies in night-time movies?

There is no legal basis for tossing out a patron with a baby, right? From cinema’s perspective, there could be a loud, disruptive scene.
Parents should just know better.
Why’d the gentleman wait so long? Everyone should have clapped. Really. It’s the only way the idiots could possibly learn.
Cheers,
Sean
Here in Naples, there is an upscale movie theatre called the Silver Spot where you can buy a bottle of wine and some tapas snacks, sit and watch a movie in huge leather living room seats….they make it very clear that no kids under two were allowed in any of the theatres…I am all for accomadations for kids and I cant wait to be a mother but I enjoy that rule 🙂 good blog….
